Don’t forget your smug pug when it comes time to to start spring cleaning!

Cheddar, our sweet rescue pug from Pug Nation LA.

  1. Wash harnesses, collars, leashes, clothes, and pet beds.

  2. Replace damaged or worn gear, or have fun with a wardrobe pupgrade.

  3. Update ID tags & confirm microchip information is still active. You can check your pets microchip at most vets & many pet stores.

  4. Check gates & fences for any vulnerabilities. Walk around and check for holes & repair if needed.

  5. Disinfect crates, gates, and corrals. Chances are your dogs aren’t the only ones touching these and flu can live on surfaces for weeks.

  6. Make sure your vet work is up to date like annual shots and checkups. Early preventative care is much easier on your pet. Replenish preventative meds, make sure you have what you need to keep your pet healthy.

  7. Toss expired pet meds, food, & grooming products. There’s no need to hold onto expired things that take up valuable real estate in your home.

  8. Toss or wash old toys. Old toys can harbor bacteria that can affect your dogs health, especially their dental health.

  9. Be prepared to encounter one of the worst enemies of dog parents—foxtails! Check your dog’s feet, nose, and ears for foxtails every single time they walk on or near dry grass. Unfortunately, foxtail injuries are extremely common in San Diego County and when our pug Cheddar had a foxtail removed from his hand there were several other pup patients in for the same thing. Foxtails are small dry grass seeds that can burrow into your animals skin and because of their unique shape foxtails only travel one direction which can cause them to travel in your dog’s body. Beyond being heartbreakingly painful, foxtails can be tricky to remove if left untreated.

  10. Plan a photo ready play date with your pup and take pictures to document their life, growth, and your shared love. Dog parks, dog friendly restaurant patios, and dog friendly hikes are a great way to do this. Natural sunlight and treats are the key to great pup pictures.
